Quick start overview

Follow these four core steps to set up your Ledger device and Ledger Live securely. The process is designed so private keys remain offline on your device — Ledger Live only acts as a management interface.

Download Ledger Live

Get Ledger Live for desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) or mobile (iOS, Android). Download only from the official Ledger download page and verify the file integrity where applicable before installing.

Initialize your Ledger device

Power on the device, choose a PIN, and write down the device-generated 24-word recovery phrase on the supplied recovery sheet. Never store your recovery phrase digitally or share it — it is the sole method to restore your wallet.

Add accounts and apps

Open Ledger Live, add accounts for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage, and install the required apps on your Ledger device from inside Ledger Live. Accounts are viewable in Ledger Live while private keys remain secure on the device.

Confirm transactions securely

Every outgoing transaction must be confirmed directly on your Ledger device. This ensures that transaction details cannot be altered from an external application — a fundamental security control for self-custody.

Important security note

Ledger never asks for your 24-word recovery phrase. If a website, support agent, or message requests your recovery phrase, treat it as a scam and do not comply.

Supported devices & compatibility

Ledger Nano S Plus, Nano X, and Ledger Stax (where available) are supported by Ledger Live. Ledger devices work with many third-party wallets and services — always verify official compatibility guidance before connecting.

Firmware & app updates

Keep your Ledger device firmware and Ledger Live app up to date. Firmware updates improve security and add new coin support; apply updates from within Ledger Live and follow on-screen instructions carefully.
